God has blessed
him with a wife and baby boy. This venturesome trio was a lighthouse
keeper's family at inaccessible stations on Canada’s Vancouver
Island west coast. Lookout Towers in fiery northern Alberta are
their present refuge. Spending most of his life in Calgary Canada,
contrasts loudly with these perched realities far from the screech
of conurbation. Somewhere along the road of life he has become a
Christian, which is now the cause and inspiration for his work.
Lynn displayed
a certain affinity to ‘see pictures’ from the early
days of operating his parents box cameras. Keen on art during high
school, he has remarkably received no other formal training. Since
becoming serious about art 25 years ago, he has explored many directions.
Maturing over the past ten years has produced a well seasoned marriage
of technique, style, and approach. Being self-taught in photography
has allowed a unique and uninhibited light to shine from this medium.
Lynn received
the 2001 Doris Pederson Award for ‘most expressive piece’
at the Colours from the Light Gala, which hosted 50 artists with
some 200 works in many disciplines.
“Lynn Hauer's photographic works explore the poetics of allegory.
His narratives, taken from various literary sources, are visually
engaging and rich, while retaining directness and clarity. The images
are of very good technical quality, and communicate effectively.”
“Conceptually,
Lynn's work owes its heritage to the mystical illustrations of William
Blake, the incongruous juxtapositions of the Magic Realists, and
the clever transpositions of photographic images by Jerry Uelsmann.”
