Katie Thamer Treherne

Katie Thamer Treherne was born in Los Angeles in 1955. The natural beauty of the California coast and the presence of the artist’s colony in Laguna Beach were both influential in her development as an artist. After studying at Berkeley, she moved to New York to find work illustrating children’s books. It took many more years than she expected. Katie continued to paint canvases, inspired by some fairly bleak surroundings. Some of the children’s books that she finally did illustrate are: The Red Shoes and The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, The Light Princess by George MacDonald, and The Black Horse - a Celtic legend from the Isle of Sky. Katie now lives in England.

“The painters that have inspired me most are those whose faith shines through their work – coupled with their outstanding ability to paint representational imagery. In particular it is their ability to make visual what is not of this world by painting what is of this world. This is what I long to do.”
