Adam Dembinski

b.1943

This important Polish self taught artist suffered a troubled and unfortunate upbringing, his father died when he was nine and he was placed in an orphanage. He had difficulty speaking from a young age and was unable to write, so he resorted to using gestures and mime to communicate with the outside world. Eventually he was placed in a home for those with severe learning difficulties, where he was encouraged to express himself through drawing, it was only then that he discovered that he could reveal a hidden world to others, through his unique and innate talent.

Dembinski's outsider art can be found in many private and public Polish collections. The Museum of Everything also has his drawings in their permanent collection and included several fine examples in a recent London show.
