Hans Bellmer

Hans Bellmer (1902 - 1975) was a German Expressionist artist, best known for the life-sized pubescent female dolls he produced in the early 1930's, and also for his erotic drawings and etchings. Historians of art and photography have often classified Bellmer as a Surrealist, although this can be argued against, what cannot be argued is that his later drawings and some etchings are masterpieces of line and erotism.

His work is represented in numerous museums, a retrospective of his work was held at the Whitechapel in 2006 and at the Pompidou Centre that same year.

The Henry Boxer Gallery often has examples of his etchings, please contact us for current availability.
